“Hey. Delilah, look at me.”
There’s a firm set to her shoulders and a tightness to her jaw. With hands gentler than I’ve ever used, I brush fingertips over her cheeks, cupping her jaw, urging but not forcing her to meet my gaze.
When she does, she’s fighting to blink back tears. The sight makes me split in two—one half a vengeful warrior wanting to slay what hurt her and the other a tender man I’ve never been before, one who wants to hug away her sorrows.
This book literally had me thinking “one more chapter” so often that I had the hardest time NOT flying through all the chapters. Y’all, even the author’s note sucked me in lol. You can tell Emma St. Clair put a lot of heart and soul into this book which just made me love the book so much more.
The humor was fantastic (example: getting stuck in clothes is the WORST). The romance was swoony as HECK (example: um, just about ANYTHING THAT THAYDEN DID OR SAY?!). The friendship dynamic between the girls was goldennnnn, as always (example: all the "Team Thayden" scheming lollll). And Apollo was ADORABLE, he really added that extraness to the book (example: ohmygosh, he was just an absolute sweetheart with both Thayden and Delilah).
As far as content goes: Any suggestive material/innuendos were pretty minor, so no worries there. No language that I can remember. There was no on-page sex, but it was talked about/implied between different characters, and there were innuendos. Thayden and Delilah both had past/present-ish struggles with their parents (excluding Thayden's mom), but none of those problems were triggering for me...however, others might feel differently. I can't think of anything else, lol. I would describe the book as a mild "PG-13 romance movie."
I would’ve loved to see some of the loose ends tied, but I’m not necessarily bitter over that...just curious. The epilogue was wonderful because it showed just a littleeeee bit more of Thayden and Delilah while still setting up for Harper and Chase's book (which I've heard AMAZING things about).
All in all, this is my favorite book of the series so far and these two hot-headed marshmallows (yes, marshmallows, because they're both FLUFF underneath all that "nonchalant/tough guy" persona) have definitely managed to make themselves my current favorite couple (I’m sorry, Abby and Zane!!!).
