Playing the Palace by Paul Rudnick

4.0

A funny, heart-felt romance.
I was immediately charmed by Carter as he prayed his little gay, Jewish heart out in St. Patrick's Cathedral. I felt in tune with his vague spirituality and self-deprecating humor. I was a little afraid this would wind up being like those cheesy Hallmark movies, but no. This was actually really great and we got to explore emotional layers for both Carter and Edgar. My one criticism would be that it was over too fast. I would've liked more than a few weeks of dating before Carter rode off into the sunset with his prince charming. Maybe even a second book where we continue to explore their relationship and the complicated dynamic of dating a prince.
