This was my first middle grade book and I absolutely adored it. Jake is sent to live with his grandmother, Honey in Dewees Island so that his mom can focus on helping his dad after he was injured in Afghanistan. He soon realizes that life on the island won't be too bad after all when he meets his new friends Lovie and Macon. Boy did I love their friendship! Each of them had something they wanted to accomplish that summer and they were so supportive of one another. This is such a great example of friendship for readers of all ages. They were such adventurers and I loved learning about the sea turtles and birds! This was such a heartwarming story of friendship, self discovery and preserving nature. Totally recommend!
