I usually love Madeline Miller and her retelling if the Greek myths, but this one was a bit too modernized for my liking.
The use of the word "fuck", the talking about writing and tutors ans governesses, the odd second and first person narrative...it was good but it wasn't what I was expecting.
It is only a short story, and it only told so much in 56 pages (including and Afterword), but I was expecting a bit more. What happened to Paphos in the end? Was Pygmalion's body ever found? Did Galatea return to stone in the end or was is a metaphor?
Who knows!
