This book is nothing I expected and everything I expected. It’s a really enjoyable, tense family drama with a dose of social satire that is hard to put down. While it successfully conveys emotions and psychology of each character and situation, the writing can clunky and drawn to superlatives to repeatedly say “he’s so handsome, she’s gorgeous, he’s the top star, she’s the top model” in different ways. There was also so much buildup to this catastrophic, destructive mansion fire right from the first pages to only actually happen in the last pages but in a manner that is anti-climactic.
