WOW!!!! this book is so quintessentially john green while still feeling fresh. despite him being much older than i am, i really feel like i’ve grown up alongside john green, and have had very similar feelings and experiences to him throughout my life. this book taught me about things i didn’t know (the yips chapter blew my mind — i had the yips in high school softball and didn’t know it was a phenomenon!! i just thought i was broken for suddenly not being able to throw a ball after 5 years of the sport) and gave me new perspectives on things i did know (his takeaway from vonnegut’s slaughterhouse five, for example).

my favorite idea from this book was brought up right from the intro, where it was explained that reviews are like mini memoirs where someone can share a snippet of their life experience in relation to something else. i really feel like john green carried that idea throughout the book and executed it well :)
