"Oh, my love. You don't know him at all. He won't intend to do you harm. But he always puts duty first. And one day, he'll need to use your magic for France, for the Crown, for his subjects. And he'll forget you're human, and oh-so-fragile, and precious."

Several years ago, my mother and I watched the television show Versailles. I wanted to watch it for several reasons - it had George Blagden in it, who I've been obsessed with since Les Misérables, it's set at Versailles, a place my mother and I went, and it's all about French history, which I'm a huge fan of. But, in the process of watching the show, I fell just a little bit in love with Phillipe and Henrietta.

This book weaves such a wonderful story. It does such an amazing job of taking the history and the facts, and wrapping it in this fictional setting. I love how Castellan introduces the magic aspect - I initially wasn't certain how I would feel about the addition of magic in My Historical Fiction book, but she made it utterly seamless.

I am already eager to start the sequel. I really hope that it features more of the romance between Henrietta and Prince Phillipe, because I am not above saying that was probably my favorite part of this book.
