The Third Baseman by Lulu Moore
3.0
✔ Second Chance Romance
✔ Sports Romance/Baseball
✔ Forced Proximity
I started reading this ARC during opening week. I figured it was perfect timing. However, what I didn’t expect was to be hit by the barometric pressure bat and knock me out for a few days. The weather has been weird here in Wisconsin. I couldn’t focus when I first picked it up, not due to the book which is why I set it down and picked it back up again when I felt better.
Jupiter & Marnie were highschool sweethearts; until they weren’t. Jupiter was drafted to play baseball right out of highschool and Marnie had been accepted early admission to MIT. This is the story of how one decision changes the course of their lives and the impact it has on each of them for the next 14 years.
What I loved was all the little details; the meanings behind Jupiter’s tattoos, the friendship Marnie formed with her coworkers and Penn’s belief in what Marnie would be able to offer his team.
What I struggled with is although I loved the little pieces between Jupiter & Marnie there was a disconnect for me; and a large part of that was due to Marnie’s realizations happening off page for the most part. As a reader, I didn’t get to feel her fall back in love. I missed that; part of what I love about romance is falling along with the characters.
I didn’t read the previous series where Jupiter was introduced and maybe if I had I might have felt differently, but I didn’t feel connected to the story or the characters in the way I normally need. I am however curious to read more by this author & in this series because some of the characters did grab my attention.
Thank you to the author & Valentine PR for the opportunity to read this book in advance of release.
