The Things They Carried
by Tim O'Brien
Really, really good. Parts of it read like a long form poem, especially the first chapter. One of the better war books I've read.
O'Brien writes, “The truths are contradictory. It can be argued, for instance, that war is grotesque. But in truth war is also beauty.” This entire book was grotesque, but beautiful.
