There are a lot of things i loved about this book, and overall I found it really enjoyable.

In this story, we see the journey of Teófila and Elijah and watch their love story play out, both the good and the bad.

I really enjoyed the sweet scenes we got of them before they got together. Getting to see them grow up as best friends was really cute.

I’ve always thought it was a skill for people that write in the mindset of people of different ages, but I think that was done well here. As time goes on and Teófila and Elijah grow up, the writing gets more mature, which I enjoyed.

Their possessiveness over each other was very funny to me. Even when they were young, T claimed him as her own.

I’m not gonna lie, him in high school was not the best guy ever. Him altering his personality wasn’t something I liked, but I understood it because he did explain why he was different around others vs just with her.

I have a lot of thoughts on their relationship, but overall I think they’re like “right person wrong time” and it showed the times where they weren’t meant to be together and the struggle of it all. It was very painful and made my heart hurt to see these two in their difficult times.

I’ve read only a few books about musicians and how difficult it is to be with them after fame hits and they’re consumed by that “fast life”. Throw drugs and addiction into the mix and it’s even worse.

I loved how T was dedicated to herself and kind of worked through everything on her own and realized that she NEEDED to do it on her own before she was ready to be with Elijah.

I don’t want to put any spoilers because I will talk more about those in my actual spoiler part, but just know, this is a lot of pain.

T was probably my favorite character out of all of them. She had a lot of strength and made some questionable decisions sometimes, but she was human after all.

Her struggle with her hair journey and bullying made me want to cry. She deserved so much better, and I’m glad she found a friend in Miley.

Miley was chaotic at times and sometimes it seemed like their friendship really wasn’t a good one, but I’m glad T had her in her life. Sometimes she just needed someone to tell her straight up how things were, and that was Miley.

(Also, the Valentine’s Day flowers at school were so cute, it made me smile so hard.)

T and Elijah really had a codependent friendship that sort of formed into their relationship. I will always believe that they should have gotten together at a different time, but you can tell that they couldn’t really let go of each other. They needed to find out who they were alone before together because that’s all they knew since they were 7, which is so wild!!!!

Elijah had a very hard path in his life and I so sympathize. It just goes to show that your circumstances really affect how you turn out as a person.

This book deals with police brutality and it was so heartbreaking to read about, but very real.

This book also deals with mental illnesses, such as depression and anxiety. Teófila deals with panic attacks as well.

I don’t hate Elijah but I don’t necessarily love him. I think he’s okay, and after the ending, worthy of forgiveness over everything that happened.

The pacing of the story was really well done. It was quite easy to breeze through, only me stopping where it got really sad for me to read.

I will be reading the next books in this series because I definitely want to see more of these characters.
