Soft Like Thunder is a remarkable start to the Savage U series.
If you've read The Savage Crew, you've probably been intrigued by Hells (Helen) since she was introduced, and I'll tell you that whatever you've imagined about her is only a fraction of who she is.
Helen is more of a BA than I expected; she's fiery and driven, determined to do whatever it takes to become the person her dear friend saw in her, and she's not going to let anyone stand in her way. She had so many different sides to her, and each one was as admirable as the next.
Theo wasn't what he seemed to be; he wasn't a frat boy with a silver spoon in his mouth. He portrayed himself in a way that was meant to help him survive. Not to say he wasn't as arrogant as some of the frat boys he was surrounded by; he was, and he pulled it off with ease. He could go from protective gentleman to hot AF alpha in the blink of an eye, and from sweet to dillwad in the blink of an eye. Which left me wanting to hug him one page, and borrow "batty" the next.
Theo and Helen's lives were in the crosshairs of a storm, and they were each other's safe haven. Their chemistry was fiercely passionate, and as a result, the good times were heaven and the bad times were hell, but they were still one another's safe place at all times, even when they didn’t want that to be the case.
My feels weren’t prepared for Theo and Helen’s story. Both of them had pasts that left scars, not physically, but the ones that make you guard your heart to prevent any more hurt, and feed thoughts in your head that make you believe things that are far from the truth. There were times their anguish was so palpable that I didn’t realize I was crying until the tears began to fall.
From start to finish, Soft Like Thunder is nothing short of enthralling. Soul-searing chemistry, a swoony(ish) alpha-hole(ish) hero (he's complicated, dude), a BA heroine, witty banter, rapt with angst, and blazing steam. I can't wait to spend more time immersed in the world of Savage U.
