this was my first hockey romance and you know what, i’ll admit that i had fun! since getting back into reading, the off campus series has been one that’s been recommended to me again and again and with it being adapted, it felt it was only right to give it a chance.
although the elle kennedy’s writing style reminded me of the fan fictions i read on wattpad when i was younger, i was still throughly entertained. this is by no means a literary masterpiece, but man it’s a good time. the hint of fake dating trope between hannah and garrett brought me right back to the nostalgic buzzy, giggly moments i would have reading ridiculous one direction fan fiction. also, the way kennedy wrote garrett graham somehow left me with a new book boyfriend. although he’s a bit egregious and stupid at times, he is downright hilarious and also very lovable. i love him bad.
all in all, i am happy i dabbled into the hockey side of the romance genre. it was silly and fun and reminded me not to take myself too seriously! i’ll be thinking about whether i want to continue the rest of the series for a bit!
