Lab Girl
by Hope Jahren
"Every kiss that I give my child heals one that I had ached for but was not given - indeed, it has turned out to be the only thing that ever could."
I went into this book not really expecting to enjoy it all that much. It was the only book from Barack Obama's summer reading list that was in stock at my library so I gave it a go. Lab Girl is a stunningly written memoir that made me laugh out loud and cry at points. Jahren does a phenomenal job of telling her story and the story of Bill with just the right emphasis on certain points. She is a mother, a scientist, an academic, a wife, and a person with mental illness but this book is not about any one of these things but all of them and more. Her writing is delightful and carries you into a different world, one of plants and leaves and green. I did not know it was possible to be so interested in the formation of plants. I highly recomend this book as a must read for everyone.
