Although titled to capture the Julie & Julia market, this is more a study of OSS operations in Indonesia and Ceylon during WWII, including the perils of recruiting Ivy League dilettantes, bored socialite women and frustrated artists and then expecting them to conform and follow strict instructions, and the subsequent McCarthy investigations into these same people. Certainly in the case of the Childs, this is an explanation why his career stalled out and why they had lifelong loyal friends.
