Monsters: A Fan's Dilemma

I thoroughly enjoyed Dederer’s casual discussion of the Monsters of the Art world. I do think she comes off as hypocritical at some points, but overall I agree with what she had to say. My main critique is in the way the female monsters were addressed, simply discussing their crimes as matrons. I also think Jodi Mitchell and Sylvia Plath were put on a pedestal of sorts, refusing to acknowledge what truly makes them monstrous. Mitchell was an active defender of black face, and Plath wrote racist remarks into her works. This is why I view them as monsters, not because of their failures as mothers.
