We Set the Dark on Fire
by Tehlor Kay Mejia
i have things that i liked about this book, and then there are things that i also dislike about it. the plot is appealing and it has an interesting storyline. i didn’t know that this was a sapphic book, and it came out as a very pleasant surprise!! i thought i was going to read a straight pair (again).
as a fantasy reader who’s usually only in for the romance, i actually enjoyed that part. at the same time, i feel like their relationship was kinda rushed and there’s barely any transition from the supposed to be disliking each other-to-lovers.
but they are so gay for each other, so i will support whatever they do!
the ending was kinda abrupt and i guess that’s okay because we have a sequel?? i don’t feel like reading it though lol. the thing is that this book came off as very predictable to me and i can see where things are going. basically, it had so much potential, but it was ruined by the very mediocre execution. you just know where this book is heading and you know how things are going to end.
