it feels new to read the jade city, but damn, one of the books that made me feel immensely connected to the characters. family relationships in books had never dwelled this deeply in me until jade city. the characters are written in a way for a reader to not help, but to like/love them.
the world-building is immersive, it is not that big of a world—but it was still, in a way, written to be complex yet easy to understand. i love how fantasy was drawn into this, it isn't so difficult to understand, but in a way, it's also complex.
it is the only book that i've read with a focus in gang wars and organized crime, and i'm pretty sure it'll be difficult to find something else that could par up with this writing.
