This was one of those stories that is not what I'd call enjoyable to read, but important to read. It is a very tragic story that covers a very ugly part of U.S. history. It is just really hard to deal with how horribly the black slaves were treated by the white plantation owners. It was very well written and researched. My only complaint is the ending seemed a bit rushed. However, the book was overall a good read. I definitely recommend it.
