The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones

5.0

This had all the elements of a classically good horror story while still offering an incredibly well done commentary on the cyclical nature of violence, particularly violence against women. I feel a lot of commentaries fall short in that they tell not show. However, Jones shows and shows incredibly vividly, from basketball games to head smashings.

You also cannot talk about this book without talking about the monster because oh my god what a well done monster. I loved how the reader comes to understand her and even empathize with her without her ever seeming human or having human-like traits. Also the use of the second person when in the monsters perspective was quite the attention grabber.

This will definitely go down as one of my most memorable reads of the year and I’m excited to read more from this offer. Great book to be my first written review on goodreads hehe
