Where Sleeping Girls Lie by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé

Rating: 3.5

My book club read this for the month of October. This book wasn't a bad read, but it did leave me feeling underwhelmed at the end - it was definitely a slow burn.

My favorite characters was Basil and Sade (she had me questioning her several times throughout the book, but still a fave), and Persephone grew on me - I thought she was going to end up being shiesty, but she proved otherwise. The dark academia aspect of the book was a good touch.

The middle of the book started to feel like a different story; there were times where I was very confused. This made for many holes and parts of the story that we wanted more answers to. For example, more answers to Elizabeth and how she popped back up, but not much was mentioned thereafter; kind of like a "I'm back, let's move along". I also understand that's a part of the premise of this book - black girls stories not being taken as serious verses someone like Jude, who the school went through all the leg work to ensure the story was investigated and handled "properly".

Overall, I left wanting more.
