rhinelanderwaldo 's review for:
Drood
by Dan Simmons
Eh...even a mediocre Simmons novel is worth reading, but Drood lacked a consistency in the use of the character Drood, and IMO had a glaringly predictable and uninspiring ending. It was also too long by at least 100 pages. Again all Simmons are great reads, but Drood lacked the punch of many of his other novels, The Horror, for example, or Black Hills (these are both recent novels, so, Mr Simmons, to pharaphrase Ellison, you can still hoe the row).
It's almost as if, I'm sorry to say, Drood was written as a paid opportunity to deeply research Dickens, and nothing significant resulted from the research.
