I picked this book up at an independent bookstore because the cover was awesome and it sounded good. What a serendipitous selection: this book is everything I love in a novel: it's gorgeously written, has an incredible cast of eclectic characters, and keeps you suspended perfectly in limbo between the real and the supernatural. The way Samantha Hunt weaves together her gorgeous symbolism is lyrical and mesmerizing, and themes like motherhood and redemption are beautifully explored in all their human complexity and hugeness. I'm still crying from the final chapter as I write this review. I'm never going to forget this book.
