The Future King by Robyn Schneider

3.5

I liked the first book, but this was a disappointing sequel and I don't think I'll be continuing in the series. The banter, when it's there, is still great, and I laughed a lot while reading the book. However, the amount of miscommunication (especially in the first half of the book) is ridiculous, and makes for a frustrating read. I could predict from the first few chapters what would happen in the next 100 pages, and that made this a bit of a chore to read (though it is still a very quick read). I was also more annoyed by the endless anachronisms this book than in the first (Flamel and Notre Dame indicate a 1300s setting which is at odds with the political structures of both England and France), especially when Emry was wearing a corset for some reason? Girl, you are 200 years early, why do you do this to yourself? I probably would've been fine with this book had I read it a few years ago though, so make of that what you will.
