Cassie, @cover2covertx convinced me to read this one. She set my expectations with saying that although this is a fantasy romance the romance is more subtle compared to the fantasy/world building. Odessa, is a princess that was engaged to her kingdom’s army commander. However, all of a sudden a prince who was supposed to marry her sister, May declared that Odessa would be the only person to meet the Shield of Sparrows agreement. Odessa is tasked with spying on her now husband’s kingdom and his guardian. But the world is filled with monsters and these monsters are acting differently than normal and getting more and more ruthless. I loved the audiobook! The narrator, Samantha Brentmoor did a FANTASTIC job bringing Odessa and the other characters to life. I really loved the world, the monsters/creatures and the SLOW BURN. There is a viking influence in the book. I did guess one of the unveilings of a character and that wasn’t disappointing to me as it was expected. I also think there were some editing issues with the book in terms of repetition in some of the sentences. The book ends in a big cliffhanger and I really want to know what happens next."
