While this was a simple and easy read, it wasn't particularly unique or enjoyable. It follows the story of Dylan, a 12 year old boy who is moved to a new island and begins seeing signs of a mysterious pirate ghost. He joins a group of a few kids already invested in the pirate mystery, and helps them battle the ghost and restore peace on the island.

It's one of those stories in which the kids are going on big intense adventures while their families and community are oblivious to all of it, which I find can be so unrealistic it pulls me out of the story. The main characters were fairly surface level in terms of development and there wasn't much growth beyond the very obvious one flaw the main character is aware of about himself. There wasn't much emotional depth or introspection. The side characters in this also had random development that seemed like it would be relevant to the plot but never was. Overall not my preferred writing style and the plot itself was very reminiscent to a young adaptation of the second PotC movie.
