I made the mistake of starting with this book being the fourth in the series. Although there is enough enough explanation and context clues provided that made this work for me as a one off. I followed the story solely through audio-book so forgive any name misspellings, they are phonetic.

The beginning portion dragged for me and would possibly be too much recap for someone who had been with the series from the beginning (I would assume) but made it worth the build up for the middle and end. There were times I was checking how many chapters were ahead. It is a long read.

I really liked Scarlet and would be interested in reading more on her and Wolf.

The Queen...Levina (sp?) was pretty two-dimensional for a while. To the point where I couldn't help but picture someone like Yzma from the Emperor's New Groove in her place because she was cartoonishly evil. She fleshed out a bit toward the end but by that time, well, her ending came.

Overall a fun revolutionary tale with an interesting sci-fi fantasy take on fairy tales.
