Its impossible to explain what I liked and didn’t like about this book without major plot spoilers, so I’ll just say this: if you’re looking for a run of the mill rom-com / queer love story this is NOT it. If you’re open to some slight supernatural flair and suspension of disbelief, you may really enjoy this. I’d liken this most closely to “Just Like Heaven” with Reese Witherspoon, not the same storyline at all but you have to be willing to be okay with some bending of reality.

I never read the synopsis of a book or any detailed reviews before picking it up, so maybe people often pick this up knowing full well what they’re getting into. I was not one of those people. About 25% into the book some big things change the trajectory of the story and I had to put it down for a few days and readjust my expectations before returning. I’m so glad I did. What a sweet, unique story with a lot of really positive, but not glorifying, representation. I can honestly say I’ve never read anything like it before and that, in itself, earns some major points.
