This book was just the ridiculously over the top romp I hoped it would be. We have a mercenary trying to be a better person-and failing. A giant lizard man who is quite happy to continue killing for money thank you. A mage who is trying to give up using magic for her own reasons. An old drunk who likes to stir up trouble, and a farmer who somehow ends up leading this crew as they try to steal from a dragon.

I couldn't even call this group morally grey as that makes it seem like they have a gravitas about them. Let's call them morally dubious, I feel like that sets more of a humorous tone. This story had me snorting in laughter throughout. The banter between characters was funny, the plans and situations they find themselves in really were ridiculous and the story was fast paced thanks to the shorter chapters and action scenes.

Basically if you want a story that will take you along for the ride, and keep you entertained throughout well then I recommend giving this a go. I'm looking forward to reading the other two books in the future. I think I will save them for between the more emotional, heavier fantasy reads. Thanks to @tweetdeath_book_review for putting this series on my radar!
