The Deepest Blue by Sarah Beth Durst

4.0

The opening of this book is so stunningly beautiful. The characters tug on my heartstrings like nothing else. The world building is so interesting and compelling. Unfortunately I think it went downhill the further it got from that opening. The island is somewhat interesting, but the political aspect and that realm felt like it detracted from the main point until it just became a new, less intriguing center. I think if I hadn't already fallen for other beautiful elements then this plot would've been solid in a different book. I just didn't care because I wanted something different and the author started out giving me that. In the end the reunion that should've been the peak of the book was overshadowed by the minutiae of less compelling plot points
