The Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson

5.0

This book was super cute and so refreshing at the time. What I loved about it was that it was historical fiction, but written like a contemporary novel. Never complicated or too flowery or overwhelming with intense historical detail. It was so easy to fall into and I loved the main character, Beatrice Nash, for her no-nonsense, independence and practicality. She's a feminist hero in a time when women have so little power and agency. I was rooting for her in every way.
