A Wind in the Door by Madeleine L'Engle

I know this is a YA book, so maybe I'm just looking too deep for a meaning ... basically it's that everything is equally important (big and small) and that love can conquer all etc, right? For such a short book, it seems to go on a bit - perhaps because there isn't any physical action once they start "kything" etc.
