The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen
5.0
This book is the embodiment of a contented sigh, of a bowl of ice cream on a summer day, of watching a sunset from your porch, of lazy, lovely days that are simple but still beautiful and wonderful.
My chest felt like it was filled with nothing but sunlight and memories of summers as a teenager and it felt like the closest thing to bottled happiness I could ever experience. Between this and Katie McGarry's Nowhere But Here I've definitely filled a worthwhile quota of wonderful lazy summer day books.
The writing style was very simple but often managed to be the craft of fantastic metaphors, unforgettable descriptions, and luscious words that made me feel like I was wrapped up in a beautiful world and sitting on a porch swing, just enjoying life and the strange and wondrous things it can bring.
The narrator, Rebecca Lowman, often made me feel safe and warm, like I was enjoying a treat each time I went for a drive with this playing on my stereo. I even went for a long drive late last night just so I could listen for longer and just circle around the city.
Overall: this book is the loveliest thing I've encountered in a long time and it's definitely going to be joining the books on my shelf that I love the most.
