A review by artemis
Deny All Charges by Eoin Colfer

i gave it 2 stars instead of 1 out of pure sentiment. iʼm honestly so disappointed.

first book wasnʼt all that bad, the beginning was slow but it was manageable. in the second book, it goes on forever. there is barely any plot, only page after page of useless info and too many descriptions. i was just bored reading this and i was sure i wouldnʼt even finish the book. i did finish, but it brought nothing into my life.

i reread artemis fowl just last summer, and it feels like the writing of these two series is on completely another level – which is fair, given that artemis was written long ago, but you would expect the author to progress with their writing, right? here i can only see regress. or, regress for that type of books, since it honestly reads like a textbook or a wikipedia page.

another thing is that i cannot bring myself to like myles. he actually wants to be like his brother, and heʼs just a kid, so of course he is going to base his personality on what he knows about artemis. but, come on. itʼs been two books into the series now and he has not developed as a character even a bit. he has all of artemisʼs brains, but none of his swag. it gets tiring after a while, it surely gets tiring after this long.

like i said, i am completely disappointed. iʼm guessing that this is a book for kids/teens but honestly, if the writing grabs attention of either, iʼd be surprised.
