Poor Things
by Alasdair Gray
I decided to read this book due to the recent release of the movie based on it. Hearing that it was a peculiar story, I chose to read the book prior to seeing the movie. The book was very slow going and I nearly DNFed it halfway through. However, several reviews said good things about the book and how it got better towards the end encouraged me to continue to push through (I was even listening on the audio book and it was slow moving enough that I would stop listening and not resume listening after a while. Thus it took many weeks to work my way through this (note, other books captured my attention on the way). Toward the end, I found it was worth finishing since another point of view of the story followed (I felt like I was watching Rashomon). This sharply improved the book overall, but not enough to raise my ranking.
