The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank
emotional
inspiring
sad
medium-paced
5.0
I had to read this in school when I was young, and I remember thinking it was just okay. I think whenever I had to read something as an assignment it just never seemed all that great. I also think that being older, I have acquired a bit more life experience and understanding of others along the way, along with a bit more empathy for others.
This was really so much more emotionally impactful to me as an adult.
At the beginning of her diary, Anne Frank seemed much like a normal teenager. She had relatively insignificant concerns, and wrote about her classmates in a way that most young people would. Throughout the time she writes in the diary, she becomes more educated, more mature, and more introspective. She was very intelligent and quite a good writer for her age. It was really fascinating to read her thoughts and feelings, and quite sad when it was over, knowing what happened to her afterwards.
