The Make-Up Test
by Jenny L. Howe
There were many things I appreciated about this book--the plus-size representation, the presence of female friendships, and the academic setting. Even though I'm not as familiar with medieval literature as our heroine, I enjoyed that part of Allison and how it played into the story.
However, I think the romance in this novel just didn't work for me. While there was some chemistry between Allison and Colin, I didn't feel myself rooting for them to get back together (or anticipating things getting steamy).
Overall, the ending wasn't satisfying to me, either. While the third-act conflict between our main characters was interesting, it ultimately didn't work for me. This was still an okay read, but I wonder if some of the elements and themes would've been better explored in a different genre.
