The Ocean at the End of the Lane
by Neil Gaiman
I hate this book.
It's nostalgic and surreal but real and feels like every strange memory from childhood. It's horrifying and nightmare-inducing and tear-making and beautifully written.
This is a book where your mileage will vary. I won't blame anyone who reads it and goes "meh", but if you're struggling with nostalgia and the strange mess of childhood this may make you cry like it did for me.
I didn't cry because Lettie didn't die, I cried because I never know what stories from childhood are real, and there are stories I wish I remember that were real and stories that I wish were real that I remember.
It's a weird book, ok?
