The Road to Farringale by Charlotte E. English

3.0

The Road to Farringale is the first installment in Charlotte English's charming Modern Magick series and follows the adventures of Cordelia "Ves" Vespar, a member/agent for the Society of Magickal Heritage.

While on a routine mission with her new partner, Jay, to retrieve two magical creatures from a Troll Enclave, the pair learn that something some strange illness is infecting the inhabitants of not only the enclave they visited, but several others across the country. Ves and Jay, along with the dapper Count Alban (of the Troll Court) are sent to investigate the cause of the illness.

Although the story is less novella and more television episode (complete with typical television cliffhanger), it is completely enjoyable. The pacing is quick, filled with action, snappy dialog, interesting settings (who doesn't like a sentient House?
