Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business
by Barbara Park, John Ed. Johnston
Audience is definitely kindergarten aged (which is one of my kids) and was recommended to me by a local librarian after we finished Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This was supposed to be along the same humorous lines and style as Road Dahl.
Truthfully, I found Junie B. Jones very bratty and annoying, but my 5 year old child loved reading about her shannigans and experiences in kindergarten. Perhaps he can relate? I will give another book of this series a try.
Just a note of caution to parents of young children like me. One thing I didn't care was a ton of name calling "dumb" "big fat mouth" "stupid" etc so I just edited those out while I read aloud. Perhaps I am too conscientious as a parent where I don't want him calling (or thinking it's ok to call) his younger brother and sister those names.
