State of Wonder by Ann Patchett

5.0

The first time I read State of Wonder (around 2012) I was already a big Ann Patchett fan. But there was one particular thing about the plot at the beginning of the book that really bugged me, it was so implausible, that it ruined the first half or so of the book for me. You'd have to be deranged not to LOVE the second half of this book, it's so amazing. Anyway this time, I already knew about the ridiculous thing at the beginning so I was able to enjoy every last sentence, word, syllable of this wonderful story. A failed obstetrician turned scientist ends up in the Amazon, sent by her pharma company employer, to find out why her colleague died there and why the infertility drug that is being developed there is taking so long. Ann Patchett always comes up with such original storylines. Can't get enough of her.
