I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH!
I fell in love with Bri's character - she is phenomenal! I think I loved it more than 'The Hate You Give' because of Bri's complexity and depth! I listened to both books as audiobooks, read by the same woman, and it was such an experience!! Each time I returned; I couldn't wait to listen to the next instalment; it left me with a warm, happy feeling inside.

This is a YA novel that explores so many important themes: living within an African American community, gangs and violence, coping with a rise to fame, complicated relationships and friendships, family influence and expectations. It sounds extremely heavy but the book is also so joyous, hopeful and humorous throughout. The inclusion of rap lyrics really added to the emotion in the story and hearing them read out made them cut even deeper. Angie Thomas is an exceptional writer and her character development is so strong. 5 out of 5 from me!!
