My son absolutely loves these books. We read them out loud and each chapter, something dramatic happens, so it keeps him wanting more. He would give this series 5 stars everytime.
Me reading it out loud to him, I would give it 3. The story is good, but reading it drives me crazy, to the point of dread at the thought of starting the next, encouraging new books to explore while hoping they would catch his attention away from these. The author has so many characters in every scene and he feels the need to have every one of them say something everytime, even if its just to say ok. So every conversation feels like this....
"Kidnapped?" Curley said in shock.
"Not Tinker Bell!" Tootles said, and burst into tears.
"He"ll pay for this!" Nibs said with a vengeful scream.
"But who kidnapped her?" Slightly asked.
"Yeah, who?" the Lost twins asked.
Literally almost every paragraph is like this. But, it is a good story and creative and my son likes it. So really, the story is for him. That is why I went with the 4 stars. And thankfully the stories really have come a long way with the writing compared to the first.
