This is Our Story by Ashley Elston was a bit disappointing. It’s characters didn’t have much depth, and their traits seemed selected more for conscience than natural occurrence. I like the narrator’s struggle with trust and distrust with the boys as the novel goes on, but I really think this is an odd position for our protagonist to even be in given her relation to the case. I do like getting the perspective from the killer, but I wish these chapters helped to provide a little more insight as to who it was. I feel like details were purposely left out regarding the actually killer as to not reveal anything too soon, rather than using the other characters to successfully cover up the real crime. At the end, this is a middle of the road mystery, that was interesting, but nothing overly impressive for the genre.
Graphic: Murder
Moderate: Gun violence
