Fool Me Once
by Harlan Coben
This was fast paced and thrilling--until it wasn't. The main character, Maya was such an unlikable cliche (could she have mentioned any more how much she hates when those odious civilians make military references?). While I appreciated the author using a female character to explore PTSD and combat veterans, he failed at making her relatable or someone you could even care about. It was bizarre how disconnected she was from her daughter until about mid-way through when he tried to interject some sort of motherly instinct or feelings into the plot. The ending...omg. It was so horrible--completely bizarre and wildly implausible. Still, giving it three stars for being interesting.
