Tangled Up In You by Christina Lauren
5.0

5 ⭐️ // THIS is how you do a retelling!

What if Disney’s Tangled took place in modern America? Ren has spent her whole life on a remote homestead, sheltered from technology and the wider world. At 22, she convinces her parents to let her attend college, where she finally tastes freedom—and loves it. But a DNA test for a class project reveals her parents may have been hiding the truth about her past. She ropes in Fitz, a reluctant (and annoyingly attractive) classmate, to take her on a road trip to find answers. Though he’s not thrilled at first and even tries to scare her into dropping out, he can’t stop himself from doing little things to ensure her safety and well-being. The more time they spend together, the more she learns about the world and the more he can’t resist letting his walls down.

I give 5⭐️ to books I loved so much, even if there are valid critiques of the story, I don’t care. However, there is one criticism I will accept for this book and it’s that Fitz’s story is a little overcomplicated. The rest of this story is a spot-on, entertaining retelling of Disney’s Tangled set in modern-day America.

Anyone who knows me knows I am a die-hard Tangled fan, and this book did not disappoint. I loved the parallel scenes and details from the movie. They didn’t feel cheesy at all, but incredibly believable yet just as entertaining. I also appreciated how realistic the ending was while staying true to the tone and atmosphere of the book. The author handled the heavy topics appropriately without losing the charm of the story.

I highly recommend this to fans of Tangled, but also for grumpy-sunshine romcom lovers. It was and incredibly addictive, fun ride. I listened to the audiobook from Audible, and the narrators did a fantastic job!
