As someone who’s not big on horror, I didn’t find it too much to handle but I still loved the thrills. This was very compelling (and stressful by the end!) and I liked all the fairytale nods within, something that is a childhood connection for the MC but also has been worked into the plot itself. With all the thrills, the reveals were quite obviously hinted at throughout so I would’ve liked those hints to be more subtle and create more mystery as I’d anticipated much of what was to come.

There are many content warnings to be aware of, body horror in particular is frequently utilized.
While colonialism and racism are essential to the plot here and sexual violence is a large part of both, I would’ve preferred if the main threats against the female character were not constantly brought back to the threat of rape.

Still I enjoyed how the story evolved and looking forward to continuing to read more by Moreno-Garcia.
