The Forsaken by Ace Atkins
4.0
This is a different South from the quote "deep South". This South is barren and dry, not lush. It's not the mid-west, but it's central. But it is Southern at it's redneck best. Atkins brings a location and its people to life (think Dave Robicheaux, but with less angst) with a blurry line between good and bad.
This story involves a biker club (they are careful not to call themselves a gang) and an old lynching. There is some excellent remembrances of 1977 that took me back to memories of similar sites, smells, and fashion.
