f_v 's review for:
Bad Feminist
by Roxane Gay
The good
Gay is eloquent, the observations sharp, and I loved the way she can be rational and emotional simultaneously. There is a reasonably wide range of subjects discussed, some of which are brilliant, some of which are soso, and some are just outdated at this stage.
The not so good
I read her essay detailing how wonderful social media can be 1 or 2 days after the Capitol was sieged. Yes, Twitter can be cool, but the bubble it creates also had clear downsides. Also, the first 2 essays about books and movies that she watched were great, but I felt that there were too many of them in total.
Overall
I'm very glad I read it. It gave me plenty to think about and she does write very well.
