Kiss of Death by Alice Wilde

3.0

Broken Rules and Broken Promises - cost this story a few stars.

I wanted to love this story, but my gut twisted as I progressed through the book and noticed how close I was getting to the end of the pages. We spend so much of this book in misery with our lead MC, only to have her run from her home 60 percent of the way through. The meet-cute moment wasn't even that; if you blinked, you would miss it. In the last 30 percent of the book, we get to know the Love Interest and his kind treatment of the MC. This story does not end on a HEA (Happily Ever After) or an HFN (Happy for Now).
Spoiler It ends with the MC dead and the Death spiraling.
This kind of ending is jarring when reading Romance Novels and leaves one feeling cheated. I know there are other books in the series, but I am hesitant to pick them up and reinvest my emotions in these characters to have the rug pulled out from under me again.
