Memento Mori
by Muriel Spark
People tend to make believe all elderly people are sweet souls. Not Spark. She puts all of her characters under the microscope and shows all of their pettiness and hatred. All of the truths we would just as soon ignore as they exist in each and every one of us. If you like everything tied up in a neat bow and a substantial plot, this isn't for you.
